Scrap Yarn Bag

I love making these bags, there is no better way to use all them scrap yarn ends up. Plus the bags make perfect gifts.


-MATERIALS-

·         DK yarn in various colours

·         4.5mm crochet hook

·         Embroidery needle and scissors

 

-ABBREVIATIONS-

·         Magic Loop (I chain two and crochet into first loop to create ring)

·         CH – Chain

·         ST – Stitch

·         SL ST – Slip stitch

·         SK ST – Skip stitch

·         SC – Single crochet

·         HDC – Half double crochet

·         DC – Double crochet

·         SC2TOG – Single crochet two together

·         JOIN and FO – SL ST into next ST, chain one, cut yarn

·         FO- Fasten off

·         FLO – Front loops only

·         BLO – Back loops only

·         T – Turn



-CONSTRUCTION NOTES- 

-          Numbers written inside {} state the number of stitches at the end of round.

-          All instructions inside ** are to be made into same space.

-          All instructions inside () are to be repeated number of times stated afterwards.

-          Pattern is written using US Crochet terminology.

 

-PATTERN NOTES-

·         Change colour at any time using and colour change methods that you like.

·         Weave ends in as you go to save time later.

·         Completed bag measures 9” x 9”.


-METHOD-


Bag Panel – make 2 changing colours as required.

1.       CH43, from the 2nd CH from hook SC across, CH1, T {42}

2-43. SC across, CH1, T {42} – 42 rows.

44.   SC around entire panel doing 3SC in corners to help turn.

Join and FO.

Re-join yarn in the back loop at the top left side of panel.

44.   IN BLO SC around 3 sides of the bag to opposite corner, of starting corner, CH1, T (see pics below).

Now working through both loops.

46-48. SC around, CH1, T – 3 rows.

FO.

Joining and Finishing:

·         With right sides together in the same orientation you are going to join the extra three sides together by whip stitching them together through the back loops.

·         Turn the bag inside out so it is the right way.

·         SC around the entire opening of the bag to neaten the edges.

 

Whip Stitch:  Using a long strand of yarn and an embroidery needle sew through consecutive back loop stitches on both pieces to join.

Straps – make with white yarn.

Note – straps can be made any length. The instructions given are for a short strap to be worn over shoulder. Leave a long starting and finishing tail for sewing onto the bag.

1.       CH95, from the 2nd CH from hook SC8 across CH1, T {94}

2-10. SC94, CH1, T {94} – 9 rows.

FO.

Sew straps onto both sies of bag.
