Add a colourful handmade touch to your coffee table with these Easy Crochet Cup Coasters!
Quick, practical and beginner-friendly, these coasters are a great way to practise your double crochet (DC) stitches while turning leftover DK yarn into something useful.
The best part is that you can make them in any colour and virtually any size you like. Create small coasters for cups, larger ones for mugs or keep going to make a bigger table mat!
-MATERIALS-
· 4mm crochet hook
· DK yarn in various colours
· Darning needle and scissors
-ABBREVIATIONS-
· Magic Loop (I chain two and crochet into first loop to create ring)
· CH – Chain
· ST – Stitch
· SL ST – Slip stitch
· SK ST – Skip stitch
· SC – Single crochet
· HDC – Half double crochet
· DC – Double crochet
· SC2TOG – Single crochet two together
· JOIN and FO – SL ST into next ST, chain one, cut yarn
· FO- Fasten off
· T – Turn
-PATTERN NOTES-
· At the beginning of each round you will chain 3, this will count as a double crochet.
· Make sure you use cotton yarn if you intend to put anything hot onto them like a cup of tea.
· Join at the end of each round.
· Pattern written using American terminology.
· Join a new colour at the beginning of each round.

Large Mat – change colours as you wish.
1. CH5, SL ST into the 1st CH to form a ring.
2. CH3, 11DC into the ring {12}
3. CH3, DC into the same space as CH3, 2DC into each ST around {24}
4. CH3, 2DC into each of the next 2 STS, (DC1, 2DC into each of the next 2 STS) repeat around {40}
5. CH3, 1DC into the same space as CH3, (DC3, 2DC into the next ST) repeat until the last 3 STS, DC3 {50}
6. CH3, 1DC into the same space as CH3, (DC4, 2DC into the next ST) repeat until the last 4 STS, DC3 {60}
7. CH3, 1DC into the same space as CH3, (DC5, 2DC into the next ST) repeat until the last 5 STS, DC3 {70}
8. CH3, 1DC into the same space as CH3, (DC6, 2DC into the next ST) repeat until the last 6 STS, DC3 {80}
9. SC around entire piece {80}
10. (SK ST, 5DC into the next ST, SK ST, SL ST) Repeat around for shell border.
Join and FO.
